First of all, ignore people who tell you to feed your maltese only dog food and nothing else, or to have set times for meals.

This doesnt generally work with malteses. They are grazers, and dont eat on command, they are not border collies or labs who will do anything for food.

If you dont leave food down, and your puppy is vomiting up stomach acid, it could do a lot of damage.

He could become hypoglycemic for one, and pass out.

If he vomits enough,

he could be come dehydrated, and he is little, so he wouldnt have to vomit alot to achieve this.

If he gets dehydrated he could get electrolyte abnormalities giving him heart palpatations etc with serious consequences.

You didnt state how old your maltese was. Is he teething? When my maltese puppy was teething, he went through a fussy period lasting about 2 months, where he hardly ate a thing. In fact it was quite a struggle trying to find him food that would appeal to him.

You at least are aware of what he enjoys eating. So that is half your job done. The next step is adding in a little bit of dog food to his preferred foods.

My maltese preferred roast chicken breast. So I would add about 1 teaspoon of wet dog food to his chicken breast strips – just enough to coat the chicken, and than slowly increased this amount over a period of days to weeks.

The other thing I found really helpful was Innova brand dog food. They have a specific type especially for fussy dogs, it is low in protein, so easier to digest. Often alot of maltese have problems digesting high protein dog foods such as eukanuba etc, and get gassy/diorrhea so low protein foods benefit them. I used the wet innova canned food – it worked a charm with my dog.

Lastly, you should get your dog checked by a vet, he might have worms or some other medical condition. It is always good to rule this out first.
